Bloggin A.D.D.

Ok, I've been bad and haven't posted lately. So I shall make up for it by posting random things you could care less about! :) I'm way too kind, I know. The other day we actually got a bit of rain and had the most spectacular double rainbow I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I couldn't get all of it in the frame....good news is that Syd ran into the shot!

Sydney has a new love of pickles...she truly is my daughter. She'll eat 5 "hickles" in a row if I'd let her. I wouldn't doubt if she could set a record for how fast she chews them. She knows she doesn't get more helpings of anything until she finishes what she has. The smart little booger just shoves the largest pieces into her mouth in order to get the next few bites from us. Pay no attention to her gazillion toys in the background. Sheeeesh!

I don't think anyone understands how difficult it is to paint a toddler's toe nails. I deserve some kind of a medal!

Windy City, Bad Blogging and Lots of Vodka

So I finally did it. I left Chris for a few days on his own with the baby. Everyone kept saying it needed to happen.....and it did. I flew to Chicago on Monday morning for back-to-back meetings and festivities while he held down the fort and sang songs on his own. I shocked myself with how well I managed without my munchkin, we won't mention how many times I peeked in on her at her daycare through their webcams. Nonetheless, the trip was a success. We had great meetings, I got to spend some time with a few of my closest friends. Wish I could've snuck in a few more visits, but I guess I'll just have to go back soon.

So, I snagged a book while waiting at O'Hare for the lightning to stop so that we could get on the flight (the flight that had no water and where they warned everyone to use the bathroom prior to the 3 hour flight back to Tucson...gotta love American Airlines). "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" I racked up a few hours worth of calls on my blackberry and then opened the book on the flight (Can't wait for the next $250 bill). I was seriously laughing hysterically while reading it. I made it a quarter of the way through the book when they ever so rudely interrupted me to announce we were landing. Chelsea is absolutely brilliant and hysterical. One moment she's pretending she's filming in Galapagos while she's 9, the next she's trying to figure out how to tie her tubes in a slip knot and talking about her love of "Midgets" or "Little Fuckers". Ok....time to read! If you haven't read it yet, DO IT!

Nonesense

It's really amazing. You find out your pregnant and it all seems surreal. 10 months come and go with this growing belly under your nose. Finally the day comes where you bring this amazing child into the world. You do your counting of their fingers and toes and say a little prayer to God for giving you a healthy baby. A couple months later you think "Wow....I can't believe I'm this child's parent.....poor kid!" :) Next thing you know, they aren't even your little baby anymore.

Then you realize this has some perks. For example, you can put their hair in funny pony tails because it's....well, it's just plain funny! It's ok to laugh at them once in a while. It's not much you're asking for with all the dirty diapers you've cleaned up over the past year and a half.

Then you start to notice strange things.....weird snacks that you love and other people find strange, but they totally appreciate. Like when you have a craving for pretzels with cream cheese and they get all excited and dig right in with you. Actually they may even like it more than you do, which is just plain weird!!

Lastly....you can do things like bang superballs against the walls in your entry way without worrying that your parents may yell at you for marking up the walls or because they're afraid you'll break something! Sydney totally loved this game. Well she loved it until she took her ball and went home!

Yummy Yummy Beets In Her Tummy

I followed Sarah's lead and made Sydney the Pink Pancakes (made with beets)! I must say I had a fear that my entire kitchen and my hands would be pink forever. It all came clean pretty easily. I think the carrots stained things worse than the beets, which is odd. I was REALLY nervous about Sydney with the pancakes, but after one bite she was screamin' for more! She actually finished all of hers and then wanted a few bites of mine. YAY for beet pancakes!! Jessica Seinfeld, you rock my world.

Syd might just be on to something here. She likes to copy her Dad, who randomly walks over to the pool, dips his hands in the water and wipes his face off. She typically gets down on her belly and hangs off the edge washing her face over and over. One day, if her skin is rockin.....this idea just might get huge. We'll bottle our pool water (don't worry, she wears a swim diaper).

My little Frankenstein walker getting ready for bed! :)

Calling All Grasshoppers and Missing Aunt Manda

Syd's new fascination is watching grasshoppers fly off into the yard in the early morning hours. They like to gather around in our yard and pool for the night to take a snooze. We like to rattle their sleepy cages as soon as we get up and chase them around!

Sydney misses you Aunt Manda! You need to visit more often!

Turtle Swim Lessons

Today was Sydney's first day of swim lessons. Although she was extremely fashionable, Dad learned her arms are really strong and her little legs.....well, let's just say she got her mama's bird legs! :) We have several more weeks of classes, so hopefully she's doin' the butterfly by Christmas.
P.S. Mozzarella Cheese sticks in the recipe book.....not so good!

Oh Happy Day!

Today was Sydney's first day at Pusch Ridge! So far so good!! She's back to her old tricks of being the best behaved child there, sleeping only an hour and refusing to eat her lunch. Aaaaah the girl is a stickler for habit.

So, I said I'd update everyone on the first few recipes from my new favorite cookbook. So far, we're three for three! We made the little cigar tacos (so yummy!!), the brownies (which even fooled my Dad) and lastly the Aloha Kebab Chicken. I almost made the chicken as a test.....was thinking "there's NO WAY she'll eat these". So I'm making them and grumbling to myself about how annoying these little skewers are and that next time I make this, I'm definitely not using them! I finish making them and Sydney barely let them cool before leaning in to take a bite. One nibble and I could see the wheels churning "hmmm, not bad, mom!". She gives me a bit of a fuss, so I put her on the couch and walk over to her with the plate of carrots and kebabs. Next thing I know, she's grabbing the stick and eating it herself!! She ate all her carrots, THREE chicken kebabs (yes, THREE) and then a brownie for dessert since she ate so well. I'm in love with this cookbook! I even had to eat my words about the kebabs, she LOVED the sticks! YYYY

Labor Day & Angry Blocker

We're not quite sure what it is about a tower of blocks, but for some reason it angers Sydney. On a rare occasion, I'll get her to help me build one.....most of the time she yells at us and rushes over to swat it down! Tonight she tried to put her bracelets on it at one point.

Sydney was able to show off her new walking skills at Grammie and Papa's for Labor Day. Even Gigi (great grandma) was impressed and gave her a new telephone for the big milestone!
