The Birthday Buzz!!!

Wow, what a weekend of festivities!! Good thing Sydney only has a birthday once a year, because they don't make enough redbulls to handle what I would need to consume to get through it all! On her actual birthday (Friday, April 24) Lala and Papa brought over a cake and a small present for Sydney. She hasn't stopped pushing her new baby Zoe in the coolest Maclaren stroller since she first laid her eyes on them. Chris's parents are here visiting for Sydney's birthday as well. Sydney loves to be able to harass them throughout the entire day. It's "Nonnie" this and "Papa" that. She is in heaven with them here.

I love the fancy picture of her showing off her cool new hat from Nonnie and Papa

Sydney loved her cake and just had to share it with everyone

We had Sydney's birthday party with the everyone on Sunday. Her latest interest is bumble bees. We must watch The Bee Movie at least once a day. I thought it would be fun to incorporate that into her party and it turned out to be a great idea and she loved it!

The invitation

The small details we had out and the bees I made from styrofoam and hung from the ceiling

Chris's parents who flew in for the big day. Nonnie and Papa along with Mommy and Daddy

What Papa didn't realize is that these very water balloons would come back to haunt him when they left. My brother Jay and I were throwing them machine gun style at their car as they left the driveway. Something tells me payback might be threefold. All that aggression we held from them telling us to clean our rooms as kids or something.

Sydney having the time of her life!

The video below is a tiny snippet into our every day lives. Sydney chooses to ignore us pretty much all of the time. I guess this is like boot camp for how she'll be as a teenager. *sigh*

Trying on the hat from her birthday party last year

The fondant bumble bee's and #2's that I made for the cupcakes

Enjoying her cupcake!

Happy 2nd Birthday Sydney!!

I can hardly believe that it's been TWO YEARS since the day I gave birth to Sydney. Although I might've aged in dog years during this time, it's worth every second. Chris's parents are here to celebrate the big day with us, so lots going on!
I thought I'd make a quick post with one of the gifts we gave her today and then post later this weekend with all the fun cake stuff and her party!

So I got this idea from one of my favorite bloggers here, and knew I just had to do this myself! I went on a massive hunt in all the local thrift & antique stores looking for the perfect antique mirror to turn into a magnetic chalkboard for Sydney's room. I even hit up a few estate sales and am quite the stalker on craigslist. I found this mirror in a cute little antique store here in Tucson and knew it would be PERFECT!! Only problem is that I nearly forgot to take my "Before" shot of it. I caught myself after I already began spray painting the back of the mirror. Whoops!

Here's the shot of the mirror before. Please make note of Sydney's lovely hand print.

I spray painted it white and added a top coat for a clean finish. Removed the mirror and cut a piece of steel to size (I wanted Sydney to be able to use magnets on it as well). I then primed the steel and painted it with chalkboard paint. I cut backerboard to size and used spray adhesive to connect it to the piece of steel. put it all back together and it's perfection!! I let her open this present early and she absolutely loves it. I'll take pictures when I hang it in her room this weekend!

It really turned out so well that I'm still on a hunt for another mirror to put in our hallway with all types of family pictures and notes.

Aunt Manda's Visit II

Chris's sister, Amanda, came to visit us again from Chicago. Sydney is her number one fan. When Amanda is gone, Sydney points to every pretty girl she sees in magazines saying "Manda!!". I try correcting her on the Victoria's Secret ones saying, "No, that's Mommy"...so far, she's not buyin it.

They ordered some pizza this weekend and Sydney was ALL about it. This is a pretty big event since Sydney is the world's pickiest eater. I made her show off her pizza for documentation purposes.

Sydney HAD to have some of Manda's ice cream cone...good thing Amanda shares better than Mommy does

Failed attempt at Build A Bear. Sydney refused to make a choice on the bears and as we took them down for her to look at, she'd put them all back where they belonged. I guess her "Bubba" back at home is more than enough bear for right now. Thanks for trying Amanda!!

I've turned into a regular paparazzi with Sydney. She's been dodging me a lot lately, so I had to hide around corners waiting for her to run by and I'd snap it. I love this shot of her racing around the corner.

We went out to dinner on Sunday up at La Encantada. Decided to do some shopping around and then eat at North. Sydney loved the little couches outside and turned into the bartender stirring everyone's drinks.......until she decided to take a sip of Dad's whiskey and diet coke drink. I suppose it's good for teething right?

Chris just chillin and Sydney ready to hit the road, Jack!

Runnin errands the stylish way
